Power of Perspective: Personifying History

Through an experiential arts integrated demo lesson that combines social studies content with creative writing, participants will consider the impact of implicit and explicit bias on individual and collective understandings. Some questions we will explore include: How does bias inform perspective? and How can we foster classroom environments that build students’ observational skills and critical thinking? Participants will leave this workshop with strategies for integrating the writing of persona poems with the study of history and a set of engaging and thought-provoking thinking routines to deepen student learning.
