Mardi Gras Comics

Esperanza Charter School
4th, Visual Art & ELA
Ms. Andrea / Ms. Dobard

As an introduction to storytelling through comics, 4th grade ELA students made their own comics about a Mardi Gras parade!

This lesson was our introduction to comics. We used tools such as speech bubbles, motion lines, and silhouettes to help us tell our stories.

Not only did we learn foundational comics techniques we’ll use this spring as we explore mythology, we did so by connecting to our own culture.

Drawing each of the four panels—shouting for beads, beads flying through the air, etc.— made the parade experience come to life!
