Mr Malbrough

In Mrs. Holmes class we have been working on building the students' understanding of the connection between words and images as part of a story. We were incredibly grateful to have a visitor from The Lion King stage play visit the class to provide a little inspiration for a few of our stories, Mr Darian Sanders who plays adult Simba! On the day of Mr Sanders’ visit the students learned how to spell and read the names of several African animals that appear in the play. The students then drew images depicting several of those animals interacting in their natural habitat (further exploration of the concepts of setting and background). Afterwards the students shared their images with the class and Mr Sanders, who then did a Q&A with the kids! The kids asked riveting questions like “what was Mr Sanders’ favorite color”  and “what was his favorite song to sing from the show”. Mr Sanders then sang a few songs from the Lion King as well as a song from the stage play of Wicked. The following week the students created images on thank you cards to send to Mr Sanders that displayed their shared stories of the experience.
