Exploring the Sky

Hynes UNO, 2nd Grade | Science/Social Studies & Visual Art

Ms. Brigid

As part of their science curriculum, Ms. Harris’s students are learning to observe the sky. Their class took an exploratory walk to examine different kinds of clouds and weather phenomena. Together, we read “Little Cloud”, by Eric Carle, and brainstormed some of the different clouds we’ve seen. These included clouds shaped like people, buildings, and animals! Students practiced their skills tearing and manipulating tissue paper, and then glued these small pieces in the shape of a creature or object of their choosing. Students created collage clouds in the shape of dinosaurs, cats, foxes, gorillas, unicorns, and even a couple of self portraits. Ms. Harris’s class demonstrated their observational abilities as young scientists and artists, while also practicing their skills tearing and gluing to create unique collages.
