Our Piggy Bank

Esperanza Charter School
1st–3rd grade, Visual Art & Math Sp.Ed.
Ms. Andrea / Mr. Tobias

In February and March 2020, students in Mr. Tobias’ and Ms. Andrea’s KID smART class made a stop-motion animation. In Math, the students were learning about coins—their money value, sizes, colors, and textures. What better way to learn about coins than through stop motion: to make a piggy bank come to life!

First students created coins out of construction paper. Next they filmed stop-motion footage: took a photo after each addition or subtraction of a coin from the pile. Finally students recorded audio to go along with their footage. It was a really fun and educational experience!
