Building Up the House: Sculptural Social Studies!

Esperanza, 3rd Grade | Social & Visual Art
Ms. Andrea

In Ms. Smallwood’s 3rd grade social studies class, students were learning about different building materials early Louisiana cultures used. What better way to grasp the concept of constructing a dwelling than to build our own sculptures!

We folded and cut paper, drew details on the outside, and glued the walls into a 3D sculpture. While adding details, we thought about, discussed, and drew texture (using repeating patterns) of our building materials, be they wood, brick, or something else! If you want to make your own house, check out this Art Apart video!
