Ms. Mia
Ms. Boyce’s class has been working hard to identify shapes AND the WHO and WHAT of the stories that they read. In our fun-filled class before the break. We used shapes, symbols, and character traits to help us remember all of the exciting story elements of Bear Says Thanks. As we read the story- we identified the characters (WHO) and the food that they brought (WHAT) using visuals and AAC devices to participate and create our chart. Then- each student chose a character and identified one describing word for their character- students practiced picking their character's picture out of many choices and were able to use a fun costume piece!
After reviewing our shapes- each student used pre-cut materials and glue to create their food symbols. In visual art, symbols use line and shape to represent an idea so each student used shapes to create a food offering from the story. Finally- we reread the story and, using our chart, each student came up when their character was mentioned to attach their food symbol to Bear’s blanket and we practiced communicating “THANKS” each time!
