Breaking up with Britain (Creating our own country part 1)

International School of Louisiana, 4th Grade | Social Studies & Theatre

Ms. King

4th grade continues to study The American Revolution, and what led the colonists to form their own country. We discussed the similarities and differences between RULES and LAWS, and made some of our own. Our RULES included things like “Parents won’t interrupt us when we are playing”, and “We can spend our allowance on anything we want”. Our LAWS included things like “Only three days of school a week”, and “ “Kids can drive”!

We brought our grievances to “King George” (played magnificently by their Social Studies teacher - complete with crown) and when he refused to acknowledge our needs, we decided to CREATE OUR OWN COUNTRY! How we tackle the challenge and excitement of building something new from the ground up will be explored in subsequent Field Notes!
