Big Bad Wolf

Today we learned the story of the “3 Little Pigs”. I have been emphasizing to my class that art is more than just a painting, so rather than create illustrations that follow the plot I thought it would be good for us to act it out. And although acting is not my specialty, in this case, I knew it would be more fun. We performed the play of the 3 little pigs four times in total. Each with a different set of students acting as the wolf and the pigs, that way everyone in the class got a turn.

Naturally, some students were more comfortable in front of a crowd than others, but the constant giggling coming from offstage made those with some stage fright seem a bit more comfortable. Zaland, Corey, Marley, Kaiyden all did great as wolves, and each group of 3 pigs quickly caught onto their queues.

In addition to performing, I wanted to give the students a chance to see what it was like to be in the audience.  This idea of being in the audience would come back into play when we critique each other’s drawings in later lessons. I did not once have to remind the students to be respectful of each other because everyone was involved and having a good time.
