Artist Symbols

Capdau, 5th Grade | ELA & Visual Art

Ms. Chiarizio

I drew Scooby Doo because I am goofy like him!

Mrs. Fulton’s 5th-grade students began their adventure into arts integrated ELA by designing a symbol to represent themselves. We started by discussing different types of artists, what they do, and how we are all artists. Students were then given a sketchbook to decorate, including one or several symbols to represent themselves. They were encouraged to focus on drawing images rather than writing words to show who they are and how they are creative. Symbols included characters they identify with: “I drew Scooby Doo because I am goofy like him!,” incorporated activities they enjoy, “I love to run so I drew someone running fast in the middle of my symbol,” zodiac signs, and favorite animals. These decorated sketchbooks will be used throughout our journey together as we explore themes and skills in ELA through visual arts.
