Kitty O’Connor
Teaching Artist
Kitty O’Connor is devoted to listening to youth and supporting them to discover, unfold and explore their passions.
She has been teaching in New Orleans public schools since 2008, and is excited to bring her creativity and classroom experience as a Teaching Artist. As a former Director of Intervention and an alumni of Special Education Leader Fellowship (SELF), Kitty focuses on creating arts integrated lessons that have accessibility at the forefront. She is a member of the Connected Arts Networks (CAN) Professional Learning Community, where she seeks development to strengthen her pedagogy, instruction, and leadership skills in order to better serve all students. Her belief that young people’s brilliance needs to be shouted from the mountain tops, led her to the Pass the Mic teacher fellowship with Be Loud Studios, where she is now not only an alumni, but a coach. She is excited to continue her professional growth and bring fresh ideas and new skills to her every-evolving teaching practice.
Kitty is a multidisciplinary artist who finds joy in sharing the things she loves: community theater, face-painting, costuming, piñatas, creative writing, baking, podcasts, nature, and ultimately believing that actualizing your unconventional ideas is a meaningful pursuit.
