The Seven Continents Podcast
Hynes UNO 3rd grade , Mrs. Daniece Tate, and Teacher Eren
When Mrs. Tate expressed her interest in podcasting with her 3rd grade science class, I immediately thought of the BeLoud Studios work with podcasting with youth in New Orleans. I had such a great time listening to the students' work when our very own Kitty O'Connor collaborated with them. Drawing inspiration from that project, Mrs. Tate designed an activity where students would form groups and create a PowerPoint presentation about their assigned continent. Then, on the day that I work with them, I would interview the students about their continents and what they learned while researching for their presentations.

The results were amazing. Even students who are shy and usually quiet participated with gusto. I was even more impressed when the first audio recordings were not usable, and we had to pivot and re-record. Kitty gave me the tip to play the audio for students, ask them what went wrong, and make a plan as a group. The students decided that in order to have good audio we must record in a quiet environment and speak loudly into the microphone. The students were even more focused during our second recording session.
I am extremely proud of this class, and I hope you enjoy listening to our 6 minute podcast about the Seven Continents!"
