Programs

KID smART’s Artist in the Classroom and AXIS professional development programs are our primary initiatives. KID smART Schools commit to changing their pedagogy through the arts, working with classroom teachers, students and curriculum.

Teaching artists co-teach daily with classroom teachers who are participating in intensive training in using the arts in the classroom. Through this integrated process, participating schools commit to pedagogical change through the arts.

KID smART teaching artists are professional arts educators experienced in working with under-resourced children. Instruction is challenging and dynamic, allowing children to think in new ways, to work in new arts media and to explore different ways of understanding themselves and the world in which they live. Teaching artists work in both the visual and performing arts.

The KID smART process transforms curricula, supporting national and state standards and benchmarks for both the arts and other core subjects.
