Welcome to KID smART

KID smART’s mission is to work with the arts to engage children in learning about themselves and the world in which they live. We strive to teach positive life skills and increase student learning in all subjects by teaching the visual and performing arts. Working with professional arts educators, KID smART presents high quality, intensive arts education through Artist in the Classroom, After School, and Community-based programs. The instruction is challenging and dynamic, allowing children to think in new ways, explore new media and investigate themselves and their world.

Post Katrina KID smART has rebuilt stronger than ever, working in 11 public schools, and creating Arts Experiences in Schools (AXIS), a collaborative professional development program on arts integration.

KID smART is a Kennedy Center Affiliate.

In June, consultant and visionary Sonali Ojha worked with a group of artists and members of the 7th Ward Community to train them in the Dreamcatchers’ method of bringing healing to children and renewal to their communities through intergenerational dialogues.

Our team has created a blog and we invite you to read about their experiences here.

Dreamcatchers training is funded by the Global Fund for Children and is being conducted in partnership with the Porch and Xavier University, Department of Visual Arts.
